1. Heat treatment
Heat the stainless steel to a minimum of 1900 degree F and then quench or rapidly cool the water by other means.
2. Hardening
Stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but PRODEC316/316L can be hardened by cold work.
3. Corrosion resistance
The graph below compares Type 316L (2.7Mo) to other stainless steels in various common corrosive environments. The graph shows the lowest temperature at which the corrosion rate exceeds 5mpy. All tests are in accordance with the requirements of the Materials Technology Institute (MTI) for the Sheet Metal Processing Industry. conduct.
4. Processability
Sheet metal processing is to easily complete the production process through a full range of cold work operations to increase the strength and hardness of the material.
5. Hot work
Stainless steel can be forged in the 1700-2200 degree F range. To achieve maximum corrosion resistance, forgings should degrade at a minimum rate of 1900°F and be otherwise quenched or rapidly cooled with water after hot work operations.
6. Welding
Stainless steel is welded using a variety of conventional welding procedures (except oxyethane), and other low carbon filler metals contain more aluminum than the base metal and should be used with steel. .
